Save the date for Thursday evening, January 15th from 6 to 7 p.m. for Dickinson PTO’s science night—featuring  Up, Up and Away, a program created by Mad Science.

This exciting Mad Science show will explore the properties of air and air pressure. Children will discover what Bernoulli’s principle has to do with toilet paper, how a garbage bag can turn into a hot air balloon, meet Grandpa Vortex...and few lucky students will ride on the Mad Science Hovercraft!

This action-packed interactive Mad Science show, sponsored by Dickinson PTO, is free for all Dickinson families. As a way to give back, consider bringing your favorite box of cereal to benefit a Lunches of Love child. If you are unable to attend, but still would like to donate, please have your child drop off a box of cereal at Dickinson’s front entrance now through January 16th. To learn more about Lunches of Love visit http://lunchesoflove.net.

We love our teachers and we love our volunteers.  Better yet, we love to show our appreciation for everything that they do for our children and our school.  Congratulations to Coach Rice on being voted the Teacher of the Month for August and to Kathryn Self on being voted the Volunteer of the Month for all of her hard work and commitment in making the car pool line safe and easy to use!

Mrs Preas, the Dickinson Librarian, needs volunteers to assist in the library.  Contact Mrs Preas (cpreas@lcisd.org or 832-223-1407) if you are able to assist with the following:
  • Check books in and out, shelve books and help with clerical jobs.
  • Organize and help implement the book fairs and reading award programs.
  • Make a weekly, yearlong commitment that includes a minimum of a one hour block of time.
You may volunteer during your child’s library time as long as it is not a problem for you or your child.  Your volunteer time is needed to carry out the above responsibilities versus a time to interact with your child or your child’s teacher.

Please let Mrs Preas know if you are able to volunteer weekly or would prefer to help with special events i.e. book fairs, reading celebrations.  If you are interested in a weekly commitment, email the day and time that you are interested in. Mrs Preas will assess her needs and respond with a Volunteer Schedule.

The new carpool line procedures came home in your child's folder and they are also available on the Traffic/Car Rider Safety page.

We need 2 parents per day to set up cones at 6:55 am—it takes about 15 minutes—bring your kids and Coach Rice will give them sports dollars!   We need another 2 parents per day at 7:45 am to remove and store cones—takes about 10 minutes.

Contact the Traffic/Car Rider Safety Committee Chair to volunteer your assistance:  Kathryn Self - traffic@dickinsonpto.com

The Dickinson PTO treated teachers and staff to a surprise 'welcome back' luncheon with pizza from Russos New York pizzeria and homemade desserts provided by Dickinson families.  Teachers were also all thrilled to receive copy paper for their classrooms.
